Speed! Gimme Speed!
According to this, admittedly old, article from Wired.com - Australia has (in 2008) the lowest reported 3G data speeds in the universe. We clocked in at an average of 759 kbps.
Surely since 2008 things would have improved?
Well, at least as far as Vodafone is concerned, let’s find out.
To test all of this speed we’ll use a common iPhone tool - Speedtest by Ookla.
It’ll give us data about the Ping time, Upload speeds, and Download speeds.
In a nutshell the Ping is the time it takes to send and receive a request from a particular server. The shorter the time the better.
The upload and download speeds are the rate at which you can send data to and from the server. The faster the better of course.
As an example, my home broadband connection just clocked in with:
Ping: 81ms
Download: 5180 kbps
Upload: 715kbps
Of course we wouldn’t expect that from a phone - but it has to be usable.
Cheers
